The platinum vs. USD quote is a popular Forex trading instrument because it's suitable for short-term and long-term trading strategies. Its high volatility allows making fast profits, while a stable uptrend makes it possible to do position trading.

Platinum is widely spread in industry: it is almost insensitive to aggressive environments and can be a catalyst in some chemical reactions. In the car industry, platinum is used in exhaust systems. It is also used in aircraft building as plating for jet turbines to make them more durable. Besides, platinum is used in medicine, the chemical, oil processing, and jewelry industry.

Although platinum is harder to find than other precious metals, it costs less than gold. South Africa, Russia, Zimbabwe, and the USA are the main platinum-producing countries. South Africa's share is almost 90%. This precious metal is imported to China to be used in the jewelry industry and to Germany, Japan, and the USA, where the industrial sector is well-developed. The XPTUSD rate depends directly on Pt production rates and demand. New technologies in which platinum is used appear every day, so the sphere of its application is growing. To analyze the XPTUSD, pay special attention to the countries mentioned above, specifically to news from the industrial and high-tech sectors.

Platinum also plays an important role in green energy because it is used to produce hydrogen, which is an alternative to oil and gas.

Risk warning: Trading in FX and CFDs entails high risk of losing capital.

Interesting facts about the XPTUSD (Platinum)

The name "Platinum" comes from the word "platina," which means "little silver" in Spanish. Only a few hundred tons of platinum can be produced every year. Platinum is just as actively traded on the market as Gold or Silver. The XPT/USD is the most common trading pair. Usually, brokers quote the pair as 1 XPT per X USD (1 Troy Ounce per X USD). Platinum has substantial volatility and liquidity.

Platinum is one of the purest precious metals on earth as it has only 5% of other substances in it. This metal is also the least reactive. Platinum was used for the first time to issue Russian coins in 1828.

South Africa’s Merensky Reef is a natural storage of platinum - the largest amount of this metal comes from there.

While investing in gold or silver was known to ancient civilizations, investment in platinum has a much shorter history. It is possible to trade platinum on the New York Mercantile Exchange and the London Platinum and Palladium Market.

With the help of LiteFinance, it is possible to trade Platinum CFD. CFD stands for contract for difference. By trading CFD, you don’t own platinum but can earn money on the difference between the open and the close prices.

Changes in supply and demand affect the platinum price directly. Due to the problems of delivery services in South African mines (75% of platinum comes from there), the price of the precious metal rocketed up to $2,252 in March 2008 as people were concerned about its production. Each time the platinum cost falls, the cost of one ounce of other metals in the platinum group (Palladium, for example) rises significantly.

Because of platinum’s sturdy and resistant physical features, it was impossible to produce the metal until the 1900s. As African countries are the largest producers of platinum, it is advisable to trade XPT/USD when the Johannesburg Stock Exchange is open - between 10:00 and 18:00 (GMT+3, indicated in LiteFinance trading platform).
