Alcoa Corporation is one of the world’s leading producers of aluminum. The company’s technologies are used to improve transportation, including automotive and commercial transport, as well as air and space travel. Also, the company contributes to the development of industrial and consumer electronics products. Alcoa enables high-performance defense vehicles, deeper oil and gas drilling, and more efficient power generation. Aside from this, the company creates smart buildings, as well as sustainable food and beverage packaging.
Alcoa initiated a quarterly cash dividend in October 2021, so it isn’t easy to define how profitable investing in Alcoa’s stock is. Thus, CFD trading is a better option as you can benefit from both rises and falls in the stock price. Institutional investors own over 80% of the company’s shares. The percentage is higher than for most companies in the aluminum industry. Therefore, traders should define the major stockholders and pay attention to how they deal with their equities. If any of them sells a large number of stocks, it will lead to a plunge in the stock price.
Also, traders should consider the alternatives of Alcoa products. If customers prefer the products of Tata Steel, Reliance Steel & Aluminum, Glencore, Arconic, RUSAL, South32, Century Aluminum, Rio Tinto, or Norsk Hydro, Alcoa’s sales will decline. This may cause a fall in the AA price in the long term.
Being a large corporation, Alcoa is often involved in lawsuits and scandals. The main categories of offenses are related to competition, the environment, safety, and employment. Lawsuits often lead to dramatic losses expressed in fees and sanctions. It’s vital to be aware of the ongoing cases to limit the risks of a wrong price prediction.
Alcoa is included in several indices. The most outstanding ones are DJ US and NYSE Composite. Inclusion in any stock market index confirms the company’s strength.
Risk warning: Trading in FX and CFDs entails high risk of losing capital.

Working with his sister, Charles Martin Hall, a chemistry student in Oberlin, Ohio, discovered a way to make aluminum through electrolysis. The usage of electrolysis reduces the cost of aluminum. Simultaneously, chemist Paul T. Héroult of France discovered the same technique, which is known as the Hall-Héroult Process. Today, the Hall-Héroult Process is the only method used by every aluminum producer on the planet.
In 1888, Charles Martin Hall found backers and founded Pittsburgh Reduction Company, and a trial production plant on Smallman Street was established. That corporation later became known as Alcoa. Alcoa continued growing and went public in 1925. That year, the company's common stock began to trade on the New York Curb Exchange, the predecessor of the American Stock Exchange. Since its inception, Alcoa alloys and propellants have been used in the United States space program, including the first manned flight, the moon landing, the Space Shuttle, and the International Space Station.
In 1979, the Alcoa Recycling Company was formed to help it achieve its goal of improving sustainability by boosting its recycling activity.
In 2008, Alcoa launched the joint venture ELYSIS to market a smelting technology patented by Alcoa that eliminates greenhouse gas emissions while producing pure oxygen.
In 2020, EcoSource, the first low-carbon, smelter-grade alumina brand, was added to Alcoa's Sustana product line. Alcoa gained permission to promote and sell responsibly manufactured products worldwide with Aluminium Stewardship Initiative certifications.
Currently, Alcoa stocks are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the #AA ticker. The share price is quite low for a corporation that has been on the market for such a long period. However, when trading a stock CFD, you should always be able to predict the price direction correctly. Check what is happening in the aluminum industry of the non-energy minerals sector. The company's financial data are no longer very strong. So, you should consider earnings reports to predict the stock price.
