To trade MS stocks, you should consider the factors that have the largest impact on the stock price.
Financials. Over recent years, the company's revenue and earnings growth has been slower than the US capital markets industry average and the US market average. The company isn't effective at generating profit from the base of equity and assets. However, its financial metrics can rapidly change. Therefore, you should check its earnings reports quarterly. Moreover, price volatility increases significantly before and after the release.
Industry. Morgan Stanley operates in the investment banks/brokers industry. You should be sure the industry operates well, as internal disruptions may affect the companies operating within it. To evaluate the industry's health, you can check Morgan Stanley's rivals. If they perform well, it may signal the industry is healthy enough to support the further development of Morgan Stanley. However, you should remember that competitors shouldn't outperform the company. Otherwise, it may lose its market share. The company's key rivals are Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Raymond James, Citibank, Edward Jones, Citi, Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse, Bank of America, and Goldman Sachs.
Scandals. As the company has existed for a long time, it has been involved in many scandals and lawsuits. Mainly, court cases relate to financial offenses, which is obvious. Other offenses are related to employment, consumer protection, miscellaneous, and competition. When trading MS shares, you should check whether there is an ongoing lawsuit as it may affect the company's reputation and its market share.
Social contribution. It's worth saying that the corporation is committed to social development. It raised $60 million to build the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. Also, its employees helped victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks. In 2013-2014, the firm launched the Investing with Impact platform and the Morgan Stanley Institute for Sustainable Investing to increase positive social impact and foster large-scale global sustainability.
