BT Group PLC is a British telecommunications company headquartered in London.
There are several main factors that affect telecom stocks. These are financial statements, its prospects, company news and industry changes.
Telecommunications companies need to constantly expand: enter new markets and implement the latest technologies. Successful projects carried out by BT Group are usually followed by an increase in the company's stock price, while a breakdown of partnerships and alliances lead to a decrease in the BT rate. This happened in 2000 when BT and AT&T parted ways and divided the Concert network: AT&T got North America and East Asia, while the rest of the world went to BT Group.
Financial statements also affect the BT stock price. In 2018, the stock fell after BT Group announced a decline in revenue and numerous layoffs.
The BT price is also influenced by company-related news and rumours. Major acquisitions and new products will have a positive impact on the BT stock. BT rate increased in 2021 amid rumors that Indian company Reliance Industries planned to buy the British company. Despite the fact that Reliance denied this information, the BT stock price increased by 9.5%.

The history of BT Group Plc began in 1846 with the foundation of the Electric Telegraph Company. It was the world's first public telegraph company. In 1912, the system of the National Telephone Company was transferred to the jurisdiction of the General Post Office. The British Telecom brand appeared in 1980. The company separated from the Post Office in 1981. In 1984, the firm was renamed British Telecommunications Plc after privatization. 50% of its shares were sold to investors. The remainder of the government stake was sold in 1991 and 1993.
Since November 2001, BT Group Plc stocks have been listed on the London and New York Stock Exchanges under the ticker symbol "BT". The company is included in many global stock indices, including FTSE 100, FTSE 350, Low Carbon 100 Europe, and STOXX 600.
BT Group has numerous large subsidiaries, including BT Global Services, which provides telecoms services to corporate and government customers around the world, and BT Consumer, which supplies telephony, subscription television, and broadband services in the UK to over 18 million customers.
The stock price is very low. Investors should be careful as the company may cancel dividend payments as it did with the 2019/20 final dividend and dividends for 2020/21. This happened due to uncertainties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The company needed to accumulate funds and manage its way through the crisis. CFD trading is a more attractive option when dealing with cheap stocks.
When trading BT shares, pay attention to its competitors. The company’s major rivals are Telenor, Virgin Group, Telefonica, Vodafone, Orange and Deutsche Telekom. If they outperform BT Group, the company's financial data can suffer, leading to a fall in the stock price.
Despite the long history, the company was involved in one big lawsuit related to employment offenses. It's a positive factor for stock traders as lawsuits and scandals always lead to money loss and negative financial data.
