Vodafone Group plc is a British telecommunications company headquartered in Newbury, Berkshire, England. It operates in more than 20 countries mainly in Europe, Asia and Africa and has partner networks in more than 40 countries all over the world. The company's primary listing is on the London Stock exchange under the ticker VOD.
Traders and investors interested in the VOD stock should first of all familiarize themselves with the structure and operating network of the company. For instance, the Vodafone partner networks play a substantial role in the company's recognition all over the world while not requiring any direct investment into the market. This way, Vodafone introduces its services and brand into the markets where it does not have a stake in local telecommunications operators. The Vodafone brand name is then added at the end of the local brand (i. e., Si.mobil - Vodafone). This strategy, as well as sponsorship of various sports teams, have increased global recognition and sales of the Vodafone brand which ultimately had a positive impact on the VOD price.
Vodafone has a long history of international expansion. However, in the 2010s it began to retrench and simplify its operations, reducing its presence in some of the regions. While it maintains and enters into new partnership agreements with many network operators around the world, it rarely enters new markets. However, in 2021 Vodafone obtained a license to become the third operator in the Sultanate of Oman, which was a bullish factor for the VOD price. Other new market entries and acquisitions will also positively affect the VOD rate.
As for the bearish factors, Vodafone was repeatedly involved in tax avoidance scandals, rated as the UK's worst mobile operator and fines for breaches of consumer protection rules. Such news usually have a negative impact on the VOD stock price.

The history of Vodafone Group Plc began in 1982 when Racal Strategic Radio Ltd was founded. It was a subsidiary of Racal Electronics Plc, the UK's largest maker of military radio technology. Racal Strategic Radio Ltd and Millicom formed a joint venture called Racal Vodafone. In September 1988, Vodafone was replaced with Telecom.
In October 1988, Racal Telecom, the largest stake in which was owned by Racal Electronics, went public on the London Stock Exchange. In September 1991, Racal Telecom was demerged from Racal Electronics. As a result, Vodafone Group was founded. Later, Racal Vodafone evolved into Vodafone Group Plc, as it is known today.
When trading VOD stocks, you should pay attention to several factors that can either boost or pull the stock price down.
Although Vodafone was considered one of the top-15 telecommunication operators/companies worldwide by revenue in 2020, it has many competitors. Vodafone's top rivals are Telstra, Liberty Global, Orange, Telefonica, Tata Communications, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, and BT. If they manage to outperform it, Vodafone's market share may reduce.
As reported, Vodafone has a negative impact on scarce human capital and GHG emission categories. However, the company has a positive overall net impact ratio. It's an important metric that shows how the company influences different sectors. The positive net ratio can be achieved via the company's focus on ESG principles. It's one of few corporations that care about them.
Institutional investors own around 80% of the company's shares, a large stake. Therefore, you should define the top-10 largest stock owners and check what they do with their shares. A sale of a large number of stocks will lead the price to fall.
Vodafone is a part of several global stock market indices, including FTSE 100, Low Carbon 100 Europe, FTSE 350, and S&P Global 100. It's a positive factor for the share price. Exclusion from the stock index may lead to a fall in the price.
